Mental wellness in fall 2020: What does that look like? - Julia Lash, IUPUI Counseling and Psychological Services
The year 2020 has brought more challenges than we could have imagined. We are in the midst of a great deal of change and ongoing uncertainty. This session will present a framework for understanding the impact of our current world on mental health and wellbeing, as well as tips on how to identify and engage with students that may be overwhelmed by the stress. Resources that can be shared with students and strategies that may be incorporated in the classroom will be discussed.

Join a conversation with instructors that are finding creative ways to sustain their use of service-learning through the pandemic. Panelists will discuss the mix of strategies they are using to address physical distancing constraints to create educationally meaningful, community-student engagement online as well as approaches to designing and assessing reflective assignments. As part of this session, participants will leave with resources to support their own integration of service-learning into the online and hybrid classroom.

Our panelists will talk about their unique experiences implementing UDL in remote and socially-distanced settings using the various tools available at Indiana University.

The challenges our campus is facing at this time may keep us local, but IUPUI students can continue to learn globally and faculty and staff can continue to collaborate globally through virtual exchange.
During this panel conversation, you will learn some of the basic concepts of virtual exchange: a teaching and student engagement strategy and high impact practice that leverages technology. You’ll also hear the experiences of both faculty and staff at different stages of implementing this strategy in the curriculum and co-curriculum. Finally, you’ll take away tips and resources to help you get started on implementing your own virtual exchange.

This session begins with a summary of the underlying principles and associated teaching strategies in Flower Darby’s timely book. Faculty will then present examples of course changes that resulted from their participation in a Small Teaching Online faculty learning community. Time will be allocated for questions and discussion.

Learn more about the data available to you as an instructor in Canvas, Kaltura, and Zoom and how you can use it to gain insights to improve your teaching and your students’ experience in your class. We will also discuss some concerns surrounding the use of analytics data and ways to be more transparent with your students about the data in these tools.
